Orange Backer Mega-Thread

According to update 35, both Orange and Red have been "perfected" for mass production, and the Red pebbles have been shipping out (people in the Red thread are posting that they're getting updates).

So I figured I'd start an orange mega-thread here. If you're an orange backer and have gotten your notification or pebble, post here! Either way, you can be smugly confident that you chose the color that is clearly superior over the other colors, even worth waiting for the pebble itself instead of replacing it with a lesser, and less-colorful watch.

New App - Pebblets - (Calendar, Calculator, Stopwatch, Timezones, Countdown Timer)

So I was tired of basic apps taking up precious slots on my pebble so I decided to start the Pebblets (Pebble Applets) project. Now with one slot you get multiple apps. When the 2way gets more robust I plan on adding some other Applets like Weather and Stock but until then I hope you get some value from this.

Option keys are as follows:

[Calendar]
Up - Goes forward a month
Down - Goes backward a month
Select Long Press - Goes back to current day

[Calculator]
Up - Goes Right
Down - Goes Down
Select - Selects Option
Select Long Press - Resets

[Stopwatch]
Select - Start/Stop
Up - Reset
Down - Record lap
Select Long Press - Reset all

Down Long Press - Goes back to main menu whilst in any applet.

IMPORTANT: Currently the light stays on while in the app. I will alter this in a later version to simply have a longer timer.

How many people have trusted their pebble to water

I am scared to try it because of how long if ever it would take to get a replacement.

How many of you have taken it swimming in a simple swimming pool? I found the thread where the person took their pebble diving in salt water which was encouraging for sure. Of course by way of the thread I have determined that one persons watch held up but I want to hear from anyone to see if they have had their watch die in water

My worry is the design of the buttons, long term effects of the water on the glue etc.

Replacement watch bands

About the only thing I don't like about the Pebble is the watch band. According to how to videos on youtube,replacing watch bands is easy, so I'm thinking that's one of the first things I'll do with my Pebble. I've been thinking about black carbon fibre pattern with red or white stitching like this:

This is my take on the sort of thing I wanted from the Pebble - a watch with extra "glance" data like the weather.

This is an Alpha quality release - your mileage may vary

Currently the data and interaction is via the Music app (as per Augmented SmartWatch)

Shows Current Time, Date and Weather and allows the sending of pre configured SMS messages

Set "Pebble Glance" as the preferred music app in the Pebble app.

NOTE:

Current Time is updated from your phone via Bluetooth - this may impact both the watch and the phone battery life

When the Pebble and the phone are not in Bluetooth range the time will not update!

USB Charge Cable?

Hey guys. Has anyone heard / seen anything about getting a new or backup USB charge cable for the Pebble? I have one and only one of them, and am considering building out a "multi" cable with my various weird charger ends on it. My BlueTooth headphones and Samsung tablet both have their own non-standard USB charge connectors, and it wouldn't be hard to fabricate a single cable with the multiple ends on it, just need some solder, heatshrink, and tape. However, I run the risk of permanently destroying my charge cable, so I dunno....

Any advice?

With 2-way communication in the SDK, there have been several interesting new apps coming out both for phone and Pebble.

But as I'm sure many of you have already noticed, this means using several different programs at once. I've got 7 programs (!!!) running on my phone to deal with my Pebble at the moment, each doing slightly different things (Pebble, Augmented Smartwatch, Translit Pebble, Pebble Reminder, Pebble Notifier, Pebble Tasker, Pebble Glance), plus Tasker. Some of them have overlapping functions but one or the other does it better. In short, it's a hassle and I'm sure it's taking up precious phone memory.

Someone (or several of you together?) has to hunker down and make a unified app with a clean interface that does all of the following:

-- Handles all program notifications with an easy menu for selecting which app notifications get sent to Pebble (example: Pebble Notifier, Augmented Smartwatch)

-- Transliterates notifications in the easier common alphabets (Russian, Greek, maybe Hebrew or Arabic) to Latin letters (example: Augmented Smartwatch with Translit Pebble)

-- Additional watch notficiations (eg. Low battery alert, Wifi connected/connection lost) (example: Augmented Smartwatch)

-- Set Alarms and alerts for your pebble (example: Pebble Reminder)

-- Support for httpebble

-- Alarm when phone disconnects from Pebble

-- SMS and missed call counter (example: Pebbler)

** Tasker Integration (example: Pebble Tasker)

** Calendar Integration (examples: Pebble Calendar and Pebble Glance)

** Weather Updates (example: Pebble Glance)

** Notepad with multiple notes saved on your phone (example: Watchnote (still under development))

** Access to other bits of info that can be selected/configured (stock prices, currency exchange, train schedule, etc.) from http sources.

** Keeps track of the last few (number configurable) notifications (example: Pebble Reminder)

** = requires a companion watch app

Then, of course, we'll need 5 companion watch apps, which can be installed from a button in the phone app (example: Pebble Calendar)

- Tasker - an app that just lets you call up tasker tasks. Preferably menu style. (closest example: Pebble Tasker)

- Calendar - a calendar app that shows dates with appointments in bold. up/down to cycle through months, middle button to return to today (example: Pebble Calendar) and then long press on middle button to go to another screen which lets you view upcoming appointments (example: Pebble Glance)

- Info page - lets you scroll through pages with info like detailed weather page (example: Pebble Glance) and eventually other bits of info.

- Notepad - lets you scroll through text notes stored in the app

- Recent notifications - Opens to show missed calls and unread SMSes, and then lets you scroll through the last (number configurable) notifications

** You could theoretically stick all these watch app functions in one app. I just worry about putting important things behind too many button-presses. That said, the design of the new Pebblets watch app (combining basic functions like calculator, stopwatch and calendar) is appealing and something similar might work.

I know.. it's a lot of work! But all of these elements are here. They just need to be distilled, combined and put behind a clean, attractive, user-friendly interface (probably tabbed?).

You don't have to do it all at once either. Some of these features could come by way of update.

I would gladly pay for an app like this. I think I'm not alone!

I received my pebble on Saturday and updated the latest firmware and downloaded the latest version of Runkeeper. Both the watch and Runkeeper app see each other and pressing "start activity" pushes the watch into displaying the pace information ( 90% of the time).

However, even though I am having a successful pairing, the watch fails to display active data and seems to freeze after a few minutes. Nothing sets it going again, so I end up backing up through the menu system to the watch face. I've have tried this around 7 times over the weekend, running, walking etc pulls up the same issue?

The phone is attached to the same arm as the watch so only about 12 inches away.

Reorder of Apps when Pressing Middle Button

Is there any way to reassign the order the the menu items appear when pressing the middle menu button? This would be very helpful when using a program like Pebble Tasker. Instead of having to scroll up or down to choose Tasker, you could just have it as the default when pressing. Also, how do you delete unwanted programs from Pebble, some way of uninstalling.

Call timer doesn't disappear?

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before; I tried to search but it turned up nothing.

Does anyone else have the issue where after a call, the call timer continues to tick up? It happens after any call. The only way to dismiss the caller screen is to either dismiss it or wait for a new notification. Even that would be okay, but it's odd to me that it continues to count up even after the call has been disconnected.

I am using it on a Nexus 4.

Pebble in salt water

Ive been wondering about using my pebble on my boat, does anyone know how the watch will stand up to the salty conditions? Im on my boat every weekend for the summer and the first thing I can think of going is the rubber band, but I'll probly use my own. Possibly the charging connectors corroding and rusting.

Android Music Control Fixed!

For those that haven't noticed, a new version of the Pebble Android App was released that allows you to choose your preferred music player. I was having difficulty controlling Play Music on my Galaxy S3 (Samsung bug) and now this feature works flawlessly for me.

Pebble is supposed to be a smart watch, but out of the box and even using the current SDK, Pebble is not particularly smart. There are some attempts of making Pebble a little smarter (Augmented Smartwatch Pro), but the usability is kind of broken in my opinion, AND it's only available for Android phones. I wanted my Pebble watch to fulfill its promise and be smart, although I've got an iPhone…so I wrote an iPhone app that transforms Pebble into the smartphone companion that it was supposed to be.

The app is able to communicate with the iPhone and display information using the built-in Music app. Admittedly, this is kind of a hack, but it's the only option for now. The downside of this hack is that it will only work with jailbroken iPhones.

Currently, the app has 8 different screens:

Status: shows current weather information and iPhone battery status
Calendar: shows next appointment with time/date and location
Bitcoin: shows the current bitcoin exchange rate from motgx (including high/low)
GPS: shows current location (either as lat/lon or street name), altitude or distance travelled, and current speed
Music: starts/stops the regular music playback
Volume: control your iPhone's volume
Camera: launch the iPhone camera and take a picture
Siri: launch Siri

All screens update automatically at predefined intervals and you can cycle through them using the "previous song" button. You can also adjust which screens will be shown on your watch at a particular time.

I'm very happy with what I've got so far, and most of my own use cases are implemented in the app (except showing news headlines, which I'm working on). Right now I'm contemplating whether I should release this to the public and I would like to hear your comments/opinions regarding the following questions:

What other screens/information would you like to see displayed on the watch?
Would you like to infer tasks from the Pebble (potentially by calling predefined API endpoints)
Would you be willing to pay for something like this? If yes, how much? (This will allow me to determine if/how much additional work I'm going to invest)

I appreciate any other comments/suggestions.

Seven days of intense use:

June, 16-23

I received my Pebble at Jun,15, and recharge all night.

So, the initial use started on jun, 16.

What scenario?

- More than 30 notifications per day (gmail, bussines email, application updates from google Play with Pebble Reminder, Tapatalk, calls, sms and battery level).

- Vibration hourly.

- Constant change of "watch faces" and test of apps

- included a Bug with two notifications of the agenda (via Pebble Reminder), left Pebble crazy and was notifying continuously for about 3 minutes until I reset the smartphone and off the watch.

- I turned off the "turn on the light with movement." Preferred to leave without automatic light.

- the mains watch face is Simplicity Plus (with weekday and w/o seconds and year)

Now, let's use another round to see if the system will last longer with less interest, changes and tests...
