Whoops. Kept getting "Service Unavailable" while posting and just realized I posted this three times.

    Mods please delete the others.

I installed the app and tried launching it on my Pebble. But all it says is "loading..." and doesn't get anywhere else. Don't know if having 2.0 Beta 3 on my watch is causing the problem.

I also have the 2.0 beta 3 version and your app says "loading..." and nothing else. I tried with WiFi and 3G connections and I got the same message.

I'm having the same problem. The manual refresh works, but the initial loading of articles doesn't work for me either. I think it's because the JS isn't immediately ready when the app launches, so that first message fails to send.

Interesting. I am also running beta 3 (iOS) but it works fine for me. Are you guys running Android?

Currently, the Pebble requests the articles when the app init's, and maybe the JS isn't ready by then like Matthew said. So instead I'll make JS send articles when it's ready.

Edit: v1.0.1 should hopefully fix this along with another scroll bug.

Yes, I'm on Android. Both bugs I reported seem to be fixed in 1.0.1

I'm on Android (N5 running 4.2.2) too and the new version seems to have solved the issues. Thanks for the update ;-)

Working for me now as well. But I do have a question: It looks like the feed that the app is picking up is the "Hot Headlines" feed. Is it supposed to use that feed and not the main "Breaking News" feed that is updated constantly?

@Adam15, it isn't. I never noticed this, but will fix it! Things would've been great if their API was public. I'll try to find the correct endpoint to get the main feed.

For future plans, would anyone like to also have "Popular Topics" and "How Headlines" feeds along with the main feed?

Pushed an update (v1.0.2) with the feed change. Happy reading!

@Neal: Thanks so much for your hard work. Your app is great. But I see another bug: None of the longer news items (ones that take up four lines or more on the Web feed) aren't showing up on the Pebble. There is a blank space for each one but the text doesn't show up.

I am using v1.0.3 of the app.

@Adam15, thank you! I did experience that as well - will look into it.

@Adam15, released an update that fixes (at least what I was experiencing) the blank space issue. Let me know if it still happens.

If someone can fancy make the appstore graphics, that'd be awesome! That's the only thing holding me off publishing this on the appstore. <3

    Hi @neal,

Thanks for the fantastic app - I use it daily.

Just wondering if it's possible to have a configuration screen in order to change the news source? Your app's layout is great and functions so well that I want to be able to use it for RSS feeds or other news sites.

    Thanks!

Thanks, John! Can you give an example site? Remember that large feeds won't be able to display properly because of the small screen size. But yes, that is definitely possible.

Thanks for the lightning fast response, @neal! :)

I was thinking some basic RSS feeds, such as:

Obviously just the titles would be shown in the list.

Side question for you too - would it be possible to show the article's content if you select a headline? You'd probably run into memory issues, I suppose.

Thanks for responding and for the great app!

This certainly looks plausible. Perhaps a new app.

I also wrote a Hacker News app which shows lists the headlines and then shows the article if you select it. But the article is summarized, however, to not display too much on a small screen. I could do something similar for this.

Thanks for the idea, John. I'll look into it and get back to you soon!

That would be fantastic @neal. All the RSS stuff at the moment is either Android or SmartWatch+ related, your BreakingNews app is a diamond in the rough as it only needs the Pebble app to pull data on iOS. Some kind of customisable RSS app (with multiple feeds if possible?) would be something incredible. And your work wouldn't go unpaid! ;)

ps. I'm a graphic designer so I could make the icon/gfx pretty for you!
